Tiziana Barghini is Reuters editor for Southern Europe. She has been a Reuters reporter for 23 years, with her carrier mainly devoted to financial journalism. She started in 1986 as a junior financial reporter covering foreign and bond markets at the time of the weak lira and Italy’s exploding public debt in the mid ’80s. Thereafter she moved to the international wire, reporting from Madrid at the time of Spanish economic expansion from 1995 to 2001. She then returned to Italy, heading the group covering general news in Italian first and the whole group of Italian reporters thereafter. She was named editor for Italy and Iberia in 2007 and in 2008 her responsabilities were extended to Greece. She is now responsible for the news file in four countries and five different languages – Portuguese, Spanish, Italian and Greek on top of the English International file — with supervision tasks on TV and pictures.
